Project Stay-In Truancy Intervention Program
Mission Statement
The Mission of the Henderson-Mercer-Warren Counties Regional Office of Education Project Stay-In is to increase attendance through education, intervention, and a positive learning environment. We strive to work with families to eliminate barriers that result in attendance difficulties in school.
Program Description
The Henderson-Mercer-Warren Counties Regional Office of Education provides Truancy Intervention and Prevention to potential truants, truants, and chronic truants. The goal is to work directly with these students and their families to prevent truancy.
Each participating school district identifies and refers students. The Stay-In program operates on the premise that dealing with the K-12th grade student’s attendance and/or academic difficulties will result in the student improving student attendance and/or academic performance, which will eventually result in the acquisition of a high school diploma.
Project Stay-In provides for student identification and referral by the participating school district, which initiates the following: parent/guardian conference, student conference, an Individual Optional Education Plan, periodic evaluation of attendance and monitoring of academic progress, and/or referral to an optional education school. The improvements include an Appointment with the Family as an intricate part of the “Project Stay-In” services.
