Illinois State Board of Education Continuing
Professional Development for Certificate Renewal Interim
Procedures July 2000
http://www.riroe.k12.il.us/riroe/other/overview.htm
Illinois
teachers are now required to meet specific professional development
requirements in order to be eligible for renewal of the new Standard
and Master certificates. The State Board of Education and the State
Teacher Certification Board have reached agreement on rules for the
new process, and ISBE has put them into effect on an emergency
basis. However, because no one could be certain when that agreement
would be reached, we have adopted interim procedures for the period
between July 1, 2000 and January 1,
2001. The interim procedures
described in this document have been developed to ensure that if you
are, or are planning to be involved during this period in activities
that count toward certificate renewal, you will be able to receive
the appropriate credit. Such interim activities might include taking
coursework this summer or supervising a student teacher in the
fall.
Registration and Renewal of Teaching Certificates
You must register in the
region you are currently teaching. One fee will cover you and all
your certificates throughout the state
If you have registered and taught
in a region (county) previously and are now teaching in a new
region, you do not have to pay an additional fee, only register in
the new region.
If you are not teaching, but wish
to keep your certificate active, you may register in any county in
the state of Illinois.
If you are substituting on a
substitute certificate, you need to pay a registration fee
(see below) in every region in which you substitute.
In order to register your
certificate, you need to bring the following items to the Regional

pay a registration fee in every region in which you substitute. The

your certificate. It will be $5.00 for each year. For example: if
your certificate expires in 2002, you owe $5.00: 2003, you will owe
$10.00.
If you have allowed your
registration to lapse for more than five years, you will be
